Program Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate Proper Chest Compression Techniques: Techniques for adults, children, and infants, including correct hand placement, compression depth, and compression rate, to effectively perform CPR.
  2. Identify Signs of Cardiac Arrest and Other Life-Threatening Conditions: Recognize conditions such as heart attack, stroke, and choking that require immediate CPR intervention.
  3. Perform Hands-Only CPR and Standard CPR with Rescue Breaths: Apply for both single and multiple rescuer scenarios, following the updated C-A-B sequence (Compressions, Airway, Breathing).
  4. Effectively Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED): Deliver controlled shocks and restart the heart during a cardiac emergency, in conjunction with ongoing CPR efforts.
  5. Explain Steps to Activate the Emergency Response System: Ensure the timely arrival of emergency medical services while administering CPR, e.g., calling 911.
  6. Understand and Apply the Good Samaritan Law: Recognize the legal protections for individuals who provide emergency care in good faith.
  7. Differentiate Between Adult, Child, and Infant CPR Techniques: Including compression depth, rescue breathing methods, and appropriate AED use for each age group.
  8. Assess the Scene for Safety: Make informed decisions regarding the appropriateness of performing CPR without putting oneself or others in danger.
  9. Modify CPR Techniques for Special Populations: Adapt techniques for pregnant women and victims of opioid overdose to ensure safe and effective care.
  10. Understand the Role of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Minimize the risk of disease transmission while performing CPR, especially in the context of COVID-19 or other infectious diseases.
  11. Respond to Opioid Overdoses Appropriately: Administer naloxone (if available) and continue CPR efforts until EMS arrives.
  12. Recognize and Manage Post-Resuscitation Care Needs: Stabilize the condition of victims of cardiac arrest until professional medical help arrives.
